Prince Edward Island is participating in the national AI scribe pilot designed to explore how artificial intelligence can support clinical documentation while keeping patient care, clinical judgment, and privacy front and centre.

Led by the Department of Health and Wellness and Health PEI, in collaboration with Canada Health Infoway, the pilot brings together primary care providers across the province to better understand how AI scribe technology can be safely and effectively integrated into everyday clinical workflows.

Supporting clinicians where it matters most

Documentation remains one of the most time-consuming parts of clinical care. AI scribes are designed to help reduce that burden by capturing clinical conversations and generating draft notes that clinicians review, edit, and approve before adding them to the patient record.

In this pilot, participating clinicians maintain full responsibility for all clinical documentation and decision-making. Patient consent is required, and patients can opt out at any time. These safeguards ensure that technology supports care without replacing professional judgment or compromising trust.

As highlighted in the announcement, early feedback from clinicians in other jurisdictions has shown promising results, with many reporting meaningful time savings and improved ability to stay focused during patient visits.

A thoughtful approach to introducing AI in healthcare

This pilot reflects a broader shift happening across Canadian healthcare. While awareness of AI scribe technology is now widespread, successful adoption depends on how these tools are introduced and supported in real clinical settings.

Programs like this one focus on:

By prioritizing these principles, pilots like this help ensure AI is introduced in a way that benefits clinicians and, in turn, the patients they care for.

Proud to support this work

Tali is proud to be supporting this initiative as part of the national AI scribe pilot. We share the focus on responsible implementation, clinician oversight, and patient-centred care, and we’re encouraged to see provinces like Prince Edward Island taking a thoughtful, measured approach to exploring new technologies.

Insights from this pilot will help inform how AI tools can be used safely and effectively across healthcare systems, supporting clinicians today while laying the groundwork for future innovation.
