A conversation with Colin Joseph on what clinicians really want from AI—and how Tali is delivering on that.
Welcome to the first edition of Tali Talks, where we go behind the scenes with the team at Tali AI to unpack real conversations about the evolving AI landscape in healthcare. We're kicking off with Colin Joseph, one of our go-to people for market insight, product vision, and good coffee chats.
This series is about pulling back the curtain, sharing what we’re hearing from clinicians across Canada, and where we think this tech should be headed next.
“We’re past the point of introducing AI. Now it’s: How much more can you do for me?” – Colin Joseph
When AI scribes first entered the scene, the excitement was all about automation and saving time. But as Colin pointed out, we’re well past the “Welcome to AI” phase. Clinicians are asking much bigger questions now.
They're no longer impressed by basic transcription. What they want is true workflow support.
They're asking:
Can you help me complete the forms?
Can you send out lab results?
Can you help my clinic avoid staff burnout?
That’s the bar now. And to get there, robust implementation, solid training, and buy-in from hesitant users are key. Clinicians want technology that’s tightly embedded into their daily workflows, not sitting beside them passively. The takeaway? AI must move from a “nice to have” to an essential clinical tool.
“It’s not about saying we’re different. It’s about showing we are.” – Colin Joseph
For Colin, Tali’s edge comes down to a few big things: seamless integrations, an incredibly supportive Customer Success team, and rapid feature updates that keep pace with clinician needs. We both agreed — this isn’t a space where you can rest on your laurels. You have to be adaptable, innovative, and always listening.
“You can’t write a book on AI, it’ll be out of date in a week. You’ve got to show people what’s coming and be the team that’s already building it.” – Colin Joseph
And while many in the market talk a big game, Tali prefers to prove it. That’s why we’re working on turning our knowledge base into a video education
series, repurposing support content into visual tools for clinicians, and meeting them where they are, literally and figuratively.
We also explored what’s next. A few standouts from our chat:
Forms automation: This came up a lot at recent events, and we both believe it could be a game-changing add-on.
Live translation: Imagine being able to speak with a patient in another language and have everything transcribed and documented instantly. That’s the kind of bold feature that sets products apart.
Charting for multiple patients: Whether it’s a well-baby visit or group therapy, we’re thinking ahead to how voice separation and custom templates could support more complex scenarios.
These aren’t just “nice-to-haves” they’re pain points clinicians have been flagging for years. If we can help solve them, we’re not just improving efficiency, we’re improving care.
One thing that really stood out was how clinician concerns around privacy and security have evolved. Tali’s long-standing presence and Canadian roots have built a lot of trust.
That said, transparency is still key. Clinicians want to know:
Where is the data stored?
Who has access to it?
Is it being used for training?
The more AI becomes an assistive tool rather than a disruption, the more open patients and providers are to embracing it.
Finally, we talked about the value of being truly Canadian. Our team isn’t just based in Toronto. We’ve got people in Alberta, B.C., the East Coast, and beyond.
“Clinics were surprised to see us at a Lethbridge conference. They thought, ‘You’re from Ontario, right?’ But we’re here, and we’re local.” - Lynn
That means we’re better equipped to understand regional differences (like what languages matter most in Manitoba vs. the GTA) and provide localised support.
“It’s a big advantage. We can meet clinics where they are—literally. Not everyone else can say that.” – Colin Joseph
